**‘Frontex’ is the European Border and Coast Guard**[** ****Agency**](https://euemployment.eu/glossary/#European-Union-agencies),
a decentralized body of the European Union. Frontex is located in Warsaw, Poland.
From an obscure agency established in 2004, currently Frontex is growing rapidly
and is on its way to become the largest EU agency by 2027 both in terms of staff
numbers and budget. Frontex together with EU Member States forms the ‘European Border
and Coast Guard’.

Frontex hires both regular “EU civil servants” and European border and coast guards.
