According to Article 55 of the Treaty of the European Union, the following are **
the [official](https://euemployment.eu/glossary/official/) European Union languages:
Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German,
Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese,
Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish and Swedish.** English continues to be counted
as an [official](https://euemployment.eu/glossary/official/) EU language despite
Brexit. This is because English has been enshrined in EU legal documents as one
of the [official](https://euemployment.eu/glossary/official/) and working languages
of the EU institutions, and because it is also one of the [official](https://euemployment.eu/glossary/official/)
languages of Ireland and Malta.
